A.   Responsibilities

The Gender Advisor is responsible for:

  • supporting the implementation of the vision of the line management to strengthen the technical and implementation skills of the staff of the Committee on Gender Equality with regard to improving women's access to the labour market.   
  • supporting the Head of Component in representing output 2 to the political partner, the Ministry of Labor (MoL) and to development partners
  • providing professional advice to partners in cooperation with important stakeholders
  • steering consultants supporting the partner and GIZ in improving women access to the Labour Market
  • supporting in aligning with other reform relevant projects and/or components to identify areas of cooperation
 

The Gender Advisor performs the following tasks:
Tasks

1.     Advising the partner institution(s) and implementation of project activities

The Gender Advisor, in coordination with the Head of Component,

  • supports in planning and is responsible for strengthening MoL gender competencies through the Employment Department and the Gender Equality Committee (GEC) in close consultation with the MoL
  • provides strategic and technical advice to the MoL National Employment Strategy (NES) and its action plan
  • implements capacity development activities, including needs assessments, training sessions, study trips, and peer exchanges to enhance the skills of employees of Gender Equality Committee GEC

2.     Coordination and cooperation

The Gender Advisor, in coordination with the Head of Component,

  • liaises with development partners and intermediaries on national and regional level, with a technical focus on women’s access to the labour market
  • supports in identifying cooperation potentials with development partners in the relevant fields and initiates cooperation

3.     Communication and Knowledge management

The Gender Advisor, in coordination with the Head of Component,

  • reviews and finalizes reports and organises the translation of documents (Arabic/English/Arabic)
  • reviews information for internal and external communication
  • is responsible for the documentation of activities and decisions in DMS
 
4.     Other duties/additional tasks

The Gender Advisor

  • performs other duties and tasks at the request of management
 
 Required qualifications, competences and experience

  • Bachelor/ MSc in the area of international development, gender or any relevant area.
  • Previous experience in the field of employment promotion and gender.
  • 3-5 years relevant professional experience in the gender and labour market related field.
  • Good understanding of processes within public authorities and institutions.
  • Excellent knowledge of the labour market sector in Egypt including gender related aspects
  • Handles digital data and social media sensitively and responsibly
  • good working knowledge of ICT technologies (related software, phone, fax, email, the internet) and computer applications (e.g. MS Office).
  • Is fluent in written and oral knowledge of English and Arabic, a working knowledge of German is a plus
  • Willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed – corresponding measures are agreed with management
