Position Overview
Data2X is a technical and advocacy platform dedicated to improving the quality, availability, and use of gender data to make a practical difference in the lives of women and girls worldwide. Data2X works with UN agencies, governments, civil society, academics, and the private sector to close gender data gaps, promote expanded and unbiased gender data collection, and use gender data to improve policies, strategies, and decision-making.
The Sr. Communications Manager will report to the Director of Advocacy, Communications, and Partnerships and will also work closely with the rest of the Advocacy & Communications team. The Sr. Communications Manager lead strategic communications and management of content across all Data2X’s editorial and digital channels, as well as assisting with production and vendor management, event planning and messaging support for advocacy engagement.

The Sr. Communications Manager will raise the visibility of Data2X by supporting the development and leading the implementation of an online outreach strategy that will include the organization’s website, social media, and email channels. The Sr. Communications Manager will also assist the Director of Advocacy, Communications, and Partnerships in implementing and enforcing brand guidelines. 

Essential Functions
Communications and Media Engagement
  • Develop and implement a strategic communications plan for Data2X in partnership with the Director of Advocacy, Communications, and Partnerships.
  • Write and edit print and digital publications as needed.
  • Support the development of press releases, media pitches, op-eds, and talking points.

Editorial Support
  • Manage vendors related to print, publications and design, including managing the production process from conceptualization to dissemination.
  • Draft compelling website site content and blog posts and assist with research and analysis for advocacy briefs and other written content as needed.
  • Assist with the development of an editorial calendar.

Online Engagement
  • Execute the digital strategy and track, monitor and report on goals and the performance of all Data2X's online properties.
  • Manage web vendors and oversee development of new sites, landing pages, web experiences and other online platforms needed for programs.
  • Coordinate outreach activities with coalition partners and build relationships with key organizations to advance Data2X's mission.

Selection Criteria
  • Bachelor's degree in international affairs, public policy, journalism or communications required.
  • At least 7-10 years of full-time experience leading and/or implementing a broad range of communications messages across a variety of mediums (web, email, social media) to target various audiences.
  • Experience in gender equality and strong interest in Data2X’s mission.
  • Excellent interpersonal, editing, writing, and oral communications skills, with an ability to write precisely and concisely for internal and external audiences.
  • Familiarity with WordPress, MailChimp, and other content management systems.
  • Strategic thinker committed to remaining on the cutting edge of online communications.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in search engine optimization.
  • Experience in publishing online content to Twitter/X, and LinkedIn.
  • Motivated self-starter with ability to work independently.
  • Familiarity with AP style desired.
