Racial justice
The Activist-in-Residence initiative at FCRJ encourages mutual learning and collaboration between activists, policymakers and academics. The goal is to enhance public-oriented work that enhances community engagement around the consequences of racism and racialisation.

The AiR programme offers a residency to an activist at the FCRJ based at SOAS University of London for six months. During this time, they will be expected to develop an action-oriented research project that is aligned with FCRJ’s research priority areas and co-create a showcase event with FCRJ. FCRJ will provide access to the SOAS library and a physical working space.

The AiR will be offered a grant to:
  • Produce a piece of action research work.
  • This could be a repository/archive of resources on a specific event/issue, developing and curating an exhibition; creating a short film or completing a scoping study.
  • Co-organise with FCRJ a showcase that brings together activists and scholars around the topics covered by the project.

You will bring an interest in:
  • Action research
  • Working with researchers, educators, policymakers or students
  • Creating public-facing, educational outputs on issues related to ‘race’ and racism
  • Delivering a concrete output based on your proposal
