The Senior Director of Individual Philanthropy leads Global Fund for Women’s strategy, development, and execution of a robust individual philanthropy program for principal, major, and mid-level donors. Reporting to the VP of Development, the Senior Director of Individual Philanthropy will lead a team of gift officers, supporting their efforts to acquire, retain, and upgrade donors through the major giving pipeline. This person will also maintain a small, yet strong portfolio of principal-level donors giving six-figures and above. 
  
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES  
  • Build and lead the strategic vision for the individual philanthropy program for mid, major, and principal gifts with a robust strategy to raise at least $12 million annually across the team. 
  • In collaboration with the team, establish strategic individual philanthropy metrics and goals for mid, major, and principal gifts, and drive successful achievement of these goals.  
  • Lead and directly supervise individual philanthropy team members, setting and measuring challenging objectives, providing feedback, and mentoring to deliver their best performance.  
  • Maintain a small, yet strong portfolio of principal donors, developing annual and long-term plans to retain and upgrade giving. 
  • Build strong, authentic relationships to retain and upgrade donors through a strong one-to-one relational approach, prioritizing strategic meetings, in-person gatherings, phone calls, personalized email and written communications, and unique solicitations that speak to the philanthropic passions of our donors.  
  • Build a synergistic team strategy with the aim of consistently upgrading donors through the mid, major, and principal donor pipeline, including leading in the creation of donor visits to partners across the globe. 
  • Develop a strong understanding of GFW’s programmatic work and utilize that knowledge to educate the team and build donor support through the creation of initiatives and communication appeals that uplift this programmatic work in compelling ways. 
  • Collaborate with the VP of Development to determine how to best utilize the CEO, programmatic staff, and the board of directors for donor outreach.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned towards meeting team and organizational goals.  
  
KEY SKILLS/WAYS OF DOING  
  • Minimum of 10 years professional experience in non-profit fundraising and at least 5 years of individual philanthropy team leadership.  
  • Previous experience as a major gift officer. 
  • Strong experience in strategic planning and project management.  
  • Expertise in telling the right stories to leverage the work of the organization.  
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills: can articulate complex themes for multiple audiences/settings; able to present complex ideas and programs in a pragmatic, compelling manner.  
  • Strong team management skills with the ability to support, mentor, and hold the team accountable for clearly established goals.  
  • Ability to handle multiple projects, set priorities, and meet deadlines.  
  • Understand and embrace feminist, community-centric funding/fundraising principles.  
  • Strong organization, decision-making, and delegation skills.  
  • Comfortable working in multi-cultural climates.  
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, with the enthusiasm and energy to implement new strategies and meet ambitious goals.  
  • Ability to travel nationally and internationally.
