ABOUT THE HIVE FUND
The Hive Fund for Climate and Gender Justice is a specialized intermediary that raises funds and makes grants to groups that are building power to accelerate an equitable transition to cleaner, renewable energy and rein in dirty energy in the US South, where pollution levels and clean energy opportunities are high and funding levels are low. In partnership with nearly thirty donors, a broad array of advisors, and nine full-time staff members, the Hive Fund provides multiyear, general support to more than 140 grantee partners primarily in Texas, Louisiana, Georgia, and the Carolinas — states that contribute more than 20 percent of the nation’s climate pollution.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Partner with Co-Directors to develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy and annual content calendar to help achieve the Hive Fund’s short- and long-term goals of raising money for the Hive Fund and our grantee partners and shifting philanthropy to invest more in climate, gender and racial justice leaders and organizations in the US South. Specific duties include:
General Communications (40 percent)
• Manage and produce content for the Hive Fund’s core communications channels, including LinkedIn, website, email communications, and quarterly newsletters.
• Lead the production of an annual Impact Report and other external-facing materials.
• Support the Co-Directors’ thought leadership through strategic writing and speaking opportunities.
• Stay current and monitor media coverage around core issues, grantee partner impact, and philanthropy.
Funder Communications (40 percent)
• Partner with the SPD to develop tailored funder-facing materials including tailored memos, webinars, and regular soft touches.
• Draft and edit grant reports and edit grant proposals.
• Help with special events such as funder site visits, webinars, and other priority Hive Fund events.
Internal Program Support (20 percent)
• Sit in on program team meetings to learn about our grantmaking
• With Co-Directors, SPD, and program staff, contribute to gathering, synthesizing, writing, and disseminating data, stories, and other evidence of grantee partners’ impact and identifying useful progress metrics.
• Help staff write semi-annual grant docket memos and maintain strategy documents.
• Help coach staff on writing as needed.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates should have most of the following attributes:
• 6+ years of communications experience with increasing responsibility, including experience in climate non-profit and/or foundation landscapes.
• Facilitative leadership skills with the ability to manage projects in ways that include team members.
• Effective oral, visual, and written communication skills (and passion) across a variety of platforms, with the ability to tell compelling stories and convey complex, intersectional work in clear and inspiring ways.
• Skill in writing about climate justice and social change issues. Experience writing grant reports.
• Demonstrated ability to integrate quantitative and qualitative data into high-level insights and persuasive narratives about impact.
• Excellent editing skills, including managing multiple rounds of editing across multiple staff.
