Gender-based violence (GBV) Youth
this is an exciting role to support and reach out to young people aged 13 – 17 who have experienced or been affected by gender-based violence, female genital mutilation, sexual, financial and emotional abuse, forced marriage and ‘honour’-based violence from the point of crisis, informing them of the full range of civil, criminal and practical options, to help ensure their short-term and long-term safety, reduce risk, enable them to access community support services and achieve their life goals.

We are looking for candidate with experience of providing emotional and practical support within the domestic violence sector, preferably working with young people and knowledge of domestic (emotional and financial abuse, ‘honour’ based violence and forced marriage) and teenage dating relationship abuse and its impact upon survivors and children.

Responsibilities
  • Providing non-judgmental one-to-one emotional and practical support to 13 - 17-year-olds survivors of gender-based violence. This will include conducting key work sessions on a regular basis and keeping accurate casework records up to date.
  • Establishing the risks to, and the needs of, 13 - 17-year-old survivors of gender- based violence through assessing their practical and emotional support needs.
  • Developing individual support and risk management plans, including risk assessments, safety planning, and needs assessments to address the risk of harm to 13 - 17-year-old survivors of gender-based violence.
  • Ensuring that any issues in relation to safeguarding children or vulnerable adults are brought to the immediate attention of the Gaia Centre Service Manager, or if unavailable another manager.
  • Assisting 13 - 17-year-old to access relevant community services such as counselling, health, legal, training, education, volunteering and employment services.
  • Supporting 13 - 17-year-old girls who have experienced or may be at risk of gender-based violence within the context of gang violence and child sexual exploitation.
  • Working in partnership with other agencies and to advocate for survivors to ensure their needs are met.
  • Delivering presentations and informal training to external agencies to increase understanding of and improve responses to gender-based violence.
Essential Skills or Experience
Good standard of general education.A    recognized        social      work/housing/legal counselling or other relevant qualification. (Desirable)SafeLives qualification. (Desirable)
