ABOUT THE FEMINIST ECONOMICS PROJECT

The AFPRNs project aims to strengthen the adoption and entrenchment of feminist economics approaches in policy-making to address the impact of the recent care, debt, and climate crises on women, who already bear the brunt of poverty, unemployment, and unpaid care work.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Feminist Economics Research 

  • Researching a feminist approach to domestic resource mobilisation and the intersection of climate and gender resulting in multiple outputs such as Background Papers, Policy Briefs, Working Papers, op-eds, and toolkits.
  • Presenting research in academic conferences, policy and network activities and other research forums and events. 
  • Reviewing and/or contributing to the care economies project as well as the Resourcing Rights for Realisation (RRR) project in relevant subject areas.
  • Leading the co-authorship of the climate and food systems working paper and toolkit to enhance a gender/feminist economics lens.

Community building and network activities
  • Developing concept notes and project plans for collaborative activities.
  • Building Africa-wide networks of those working on gendered/feminist economic approaches to domestic resource mobilisation and climate justice
  • Collaborating with community members in implementing feminist analysis in research, policy and advocacy.
  • Contributing to the FESS capacity building programme, with a particular focus on domestic resource mobilisation and climate themes, by contributing to programme design, speaker selection and general coordination, drafting assessment and reports for relevant work streams.

Project management (DRM/Climate)
  • Developing concept notes, and drawing up budgets and project plans.
  • Managing the planning and implementation of domestic resource mobilisation and climate thematics.
  • Planning and implementing capacity building.
  • Contributing to the overall design and project plan of the AFERPN team.
  • Input to funding proposals in relevant AFERPN workstreams. 
  • Leading project implementation, administration and monitoring/evaluation.
  • Drafting assessments and donor reports for relevant work areas.

Organisational responsibilities
  • Contribute to AFERPN’s overall strategy.
  • Organising reading groups/webinars and outreach within the IEJ community and network. 
  • Contributing to organisational tasks as required.
  • mentorship of more junior staff members, for example, interns and junior researchers.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Master’s Degree in Economics, Development Studies, Gender Studies, Sociology, Political Science and Public Policy.
  • Knowledgeable about feminist economics and relevant thematic areas.
  • Research experience in qualitative and quantitative research methods.
  • Project management skills.
  • Experience with working with various stakeholders in civil society, public policy and research institutions.
  • Strong writing and analytical skills.
  • Excellent computer literacy is essential, especially in MS Outlook, MS Word and MS Excel.
  • Strategic and analytical thinker; proactive and performance‐orientated.
  • Organised, self‐reliant, good problem‐solving, results‐oriented multi‐tasker with decision-making skills.
  • Presentation skills and the ability to effectively interface with all team members and stakeholders.
