Key responsibilities


  • Support the RM Specialist and RM Manager to implement the resource mobilisation strategy for the organisation. 
  • Assist the RM Specialist and RM Manager to identify new institutional, government, corporate and private donors.
  • Work closely with RM Specialist and RM Manager and programme staff before a proposal is developed to strategise around potential projects and process.
  • Stay abreast of the literature and developments in the field to ensure that proposals are current and to identify new opportunities.
  • In consultation with SMT, RM Specialist RM Manager and unit managers, assist to develop Sonke’s sub-grants and fee for service portfolios. 
  • Together with the RM manager & RM Specialist, work with the unit managers to identify new sub-grant opportunities and prepare new proposals.
  • Support RM Specialist and RM Manager to coordinate an annual donor meeting.
  • Coordinate with RM Specialist and RM Manager to support the conduction of annual donor surveys.
  • Research innovative communication strategies for donor stewardship.
  • Support RM Specialist and RM Manager to maintain a funding register of grant proposals.
  • Support RM Specialist and RM Manager in tracking the proposals that were approved.
  • Support RM Specialist and RM Manager is assessing rejected proposals.
  • Support RM Specialist and RM Manager in ensuring reports meet donor compliance.
  • Support RM Specialist and RM Manager to maintain a donor database.
  • Create and maintain all donor files in hard copy (the files must include all key information including contracts, proposals, budgets, financial, narrative and audit reports and key communication with the donor including request for changes to the budget).

Educational requirements

  • Degree in relevant field.
  • Evidence of studentship with institution.
  • Experience and interest in non-profit sector and administration.
  • Strong interest in working on issues related to human rights, GBV and HIV and Aids, gender equality.
  • Strong research and analytical skills
  • Able to write clearly, concisely and persuasively.
  • Detail oriented, excellent organisational and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to adhere to deadlines; punctuality and regular attendance required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills across diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to work efficiently with competing demands.
  • Able to work independently and in a multicultural team.
