Peace and Security
The Events Manager will lead the development and execution of the Institute’s events to sharpen and expand the Institute’s impact. This individual will supervise two Program Coordinators and work closely with GIWPS leadership to envision and realize summits with world leaders, thematic series and private dialogues, VIP visits, and awards ceremonies. Reporting to the Director of External Affairs and working closely with the GIWPS Executive Director as well as other members of the GIWPS team, the Events Manager has additional responsibilities that include but are not limited to:
  • -In concert with the Executive Director and Director of External Affairs, develop an events strategy that includes global summits, thematic series, strategic dialogues, VIP visits, and awards ceremonies.
  • -Oversee execution of events including agenda design, securing and liaising with speakers, invitation outreach, staffing, briefing participants, coordinating events with the Institute’s communications and research teams, and any other duties related to the planning of an event.
  • -Build and manage relationships with event partners across governments, multilateral organizations, civil society, and Georgetown University. 
  • Work with the GIWPS team to ensure relevant content of programs and events reach communities of policy and practice, and influence key policy processes. 
  • -Represent GIWPS to internal and external constituencies with respect to program implementation.
  • -Interact with other members of the University including the Events Director and team at the School of Foreign Service and the Protocol team in the President’s Office.
  • -Work closely with the Director of External Affairs to ensure responsible and accountable use of programmatic funds. Align closely with the Director of External Affairs to assess program effectiveness.

  • Requirements and Qualifications
    • -Bachelor’s degree and 5-8 years of work experience, including at least 2 years of experience managing events and programs
    • -Experience overseeing the organization of formal convenings, and virtual and in-person events structured to advance advocacy, elevate policy issues, and raise the profile of participants
    • -Expert knowledge of elements required to mount successful convenings including designing agendas, overseeing logistics (space, vendors, audience management, advance and protocol), and managing high-level speakers and participants
    • -Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills, and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community
    • -Experience with project management including staffing, budgeting, and ensuring quality and timely deliverables
    • -Experience overseeing contracts with vendors and managing program budgets
    • -Ability to remain calm under pressure, adapt quickly, and exhibit sound judgment in a fast-paced environment
    • -Strong attention to detail, deadlines, and consideration of others with solid writing, analytical, and communications skills
    • -Ability to work flexible hours and be present at GIWPS events, including those that occasionally take place over weekends and evenings.

  • Preferred Qualifications
    • -Experience working with VIPs and staffing principals
    • -Supervisory experience
    • -Professional knowledge and experience working in the international affairs field and/or with governments, diplomatic missions, or multilateral organizations on issues related to human rights, women’s rights, conflict resolution, atrocity prevention, and/or state fragility
