Key performance areas:
1. Resource mobilisation strategy

  • In collaboration with the Co-Executive Directors and Resource Mobilisation Consultant, implement the resource mobilisation strategy for the organisation.
  • Develop an annual workplan that is aligned to the resource mobilisation strategy.
  • Identify new institutional, government, corporate and private donors.


2. Proposal development

  • Work closely with programme staff before a proposal is developed to strategise around potential projects and processes.
  • Work in consultation with management, project staff and finance to develop persuasive funding proposals and budgets to submit to new and existing donors.
  • Support Unit Managers when requested with project kick-off meetings when new projects and grants commence.
  • Build capacity of staff through training and during the process of proposal development.

3. Income generation

  • In consultation with the Unit Managers and Co-Executive Directors, develop Sonke’s income generation strategy.
  • Develop a workplan to roll out income generation activities.
  • Work with the Unit Managers to identify new income streams with corporates.
  • Develop business plans in consultation with managers for possible generation of long-term income for the organisation.

4. Donor reporting and relations

  • Ensure regular communication with donors, including distribution of Sonke’s newsletter and other relevant materials.
  • Ensure that donor representatives are invited to participate in project activities, where appropriate.
  • Host annual donor meetings.

5. Administration, database management, development of policies

  • Maintain a funding register of grant proposals, tracking proposals that were approved, rejected and those still in the pipeline on a monthly basis.
  • Maintain a grant management dashboard which captures all compliance related detail including reporting deadlines.
  • Maintain a donor database.
  • Create and maintain all donor files in hard copy and on the shared server.

Requirements


  • Degree in Development Studies, Law, Sociology, Industrial Psychology, Business Science, Commerce or extensive related experience;
  • Experience and interest in non-profit management and administration;
  • Experience working with large budgets and multiple donors;
  • At least 5 years working experience on issues related human rights, GBV and HIV and Aids, gender equality;
  • Minimum 5 years relevant professional working experience in a management role in marketing, public relations or corporate social investment;
  • Strong research and analytical skills;
  • Able to write clearly, concisely and persuasively;
  • Detail oriented, excellent organisational and multi-tasking skills; ability to adhere to deadlines; punctuality and regular attendance required;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills across diverse cultural backgrounds;
  • Ability to work efficiently with competing demands; and
  • Able to work independently and in a multicultural team.
