Overview of the role
 The Press and Communications Manager will be responsible for producing content about the School of Sexuality Education for our different communications channels, and leading media activities for the charity, with support from a team of volunteers. We are looking for someone with solid experience in press and communications, who is organised and comfortable working in a busy environment with multiple deadlines.
 
Main duties and responsibilities:
● Oversee the development and implementation of key communications strategies.
● Act as a first point-of-cal for social media volunteers, supervising their outputs and offering guidance and advice before returning to the CEO.
● Produce well-written engaging copy for blogs, social media, and other content pieces for a range of audiences.
● Create and schedule high-quality targeted content across multiple channels (web, newsletters, social media).
● Ensure that all content across the website and social media adheres to accessibility best practices.
● Work collaboratively with the team and partners to produce content, proofread and edit material for publication.
● Maintain and update our website, including working with our Website Manager and web developer to resolve more complex issues.
● Oversee the charity’s internal communications related to the activities and operations of the communications team, to ensure that relevant information is shared across the organisation promptly.
● Ensure all communications are in line with the charity’s brand and marketing strategy, maintaining a consistent tone of voice that reflects our values and professional expertise.
● Guide campaigns and share the charity’s success stories or testimonials.
● Develop and maintain close working relationships with journalists across a range of broadcast, print and digital media outlets

Person Specification Essential characteristics and experience

● Significant experience in communications and media relations. I
● Experience in the usage and implementation of social media content calendars and management systems/scheduling platforms. 
● Excellent writing skills and proven copywriting ability 
● Strong organisational skills with an ability to juggle short-term, tight deadlines with longer-term projects 
● Experience in developing and executing PR strategies, across multiple media platforms and with a range of stakeholders. 
● Excellent personal contacts with journalists. 
● Strong and proven ability to successfully pitch stories to key external contacts and high-profile media professionals. 
● Creativity and ability to take initiative. 
● Good attention to detail.
