Founded in 1992, Equality Now is an international human rights organization that works to protect and promote the rights of women and girls in the areas of legal equality, harmful practices, sexual violence, and sexual exploitation, with a cross-cutting focus on adolescent girls.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 
  1. Undertake legal and policy research on issues relating to GBV prevention and response with specific references to counties of operation under the Gender Justice and YW4A campaigns, including identifying appropriate laws, judicial decisions, legal articles and other materials relevant to the campaigns and using the same to develop policy briefs, strategies and inform campaign activities.
  2. Prepare well-researched concept notes and agenda alongside comparative case law to inform various convening.
  3. Provide technical and logistical support in the coordination and management of state and non-state partners under the various campaigns within the ESV programme including through communication, documentation and onsite visits to the partners.
  4. Assist in the monitoring, evaluation and documentation of the implementation process of the various campaigns both in the ESV campaigns in the Africa office including by use of the activity tracker and the relevant joint online folders for respective campaigns
  5. Support programme officers in the convening of partners within the Equality Forum thematic groups towards accountability for delivery of GEF commitments 
  6. Where so requested, to draft updates on the progress implementation of the four campaigns highlighted herein above under End Sexual Violence Program in the Africa office.
  7. Generate various drafts as requested from time to time including letters, speeches, presentations, reports, policy briefs, research reports, updated checklists, press releases, comprehensive progress reports etc.
  8. Assist in managing the ESV calendar, by keeping track of the upcoming relevant state actors and partners meetings and events relevant to the four key campaigns highlighted above and making all the necessary preparations, as well as keeping minutes during such meetings.
  9. Participating in the conceptualisation, drafting, and editing of periodic reports including submission to accountability platforms.
  10. Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the ESV Program officers or the Regional Coordinator

Academic and Professional Qualifications

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in law, human rights, international relations, gender studies, social sciences or a related field is required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ work experience in the non-profit, NGO, community development sectors or related field.
  • A strong grasp of the African human rights system, women and girls’ rights issues in Africa, continental dynamics and their effects on the implementation of key treaties underpinning the rights of women and girls in Africa.
  • Proven track record of knowledge and commitment – exhibited by coursework, writing, or work experience – to the rights of women and girls in Africa.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage concurrent deadlines.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Excellent writing, research, and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication, excellent interpersonal, and networking skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and strong technical literacy.
