About the role

Christian Aid Ireland is seeking an experienced Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Advisor. The role supports the delivery of Christian Aid Ireland's Programme Strategy, with a focus on providing technical leadership and enhancing the capacity of Christian Aid and partners to work on issues relating to gender and social inclusion and gender-based violence (GBV). The role will also contribute to providing direction and technical input to embed Christian Aid's approach to inclusive programming, gender transformative approaches and gender-based violence work at organisational level.

 Key outcomes
• Christian Aid Ireland designs and delivers high quality programmes with appropriate strategies to integrate gender equality and social inclusion and achieve objectives related to gender and GBV, either as cross-cutting issues or primary objectives. 
• Appropriate programmatic approaches that put people at the centre are defined, developed and operationalised within Christian Aid Ireland programmes, such as adaptive management, community-led and gender transformative approaches. 
• Christian Aid and partner staff have strong capacity and commitment on issues in relation to gender equality, social inclusion, power and GBV, and learning and good practice is documented. 
• Effective learning is supported between Christian Aid Ireland funded country and regional programmes, and with the wider organisation, through organised learning events, peer reviews, exchanges between partners and research initiatives on gender, inclusion and GBV. 
• Christian Aid programming benefits from, and contributes to, latest thinking, knowledge and debates on gender and GBV, including from the countries in which we work, and learning from our practice influences external thinking. 
• Clarity of approach and appropriate technical support are available across Christian Aid on gender equality and social inclusion and GBV, including strategy, thematic guidance, high quality resources and training packages. 

About you

Essential

  • Graduate or equivalent in international development, gender studies, human rights or other relevant discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience of working on gender, and preferably GBV, in international development, including programme development, support, monitoring and reporting.
  • Familiarity with current thinking and debates on gender and GBV in international humanitarian, development and peacebuilding work.
  • Demonstrable ability to apply gender/ social exclusion analysis to programme design and management.
  • Experience of working with institutional donor funding, including contributing to reporting.
  • Excellent coaching and facilitation skills, with ability to promote critical thinking and reflection.
  • Experience of providing training and technical support to country teams and preferably national and local partner organisations.
  • Proven capacity to work across cultures in an inclusive and sensitive manner.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English, including ability to communicate effectively across cultures and when working remotely.
