Key responsibilities
• Lead the development of a new EDISW strategy and ensure alignment with broader institutional strategies
• Identify and deliver data-driven and evidence-based plans, actions and interventions, leading to measurable outcomes
• Partner with SOAS colleagues to develop data reports to identify trends or areas of future focus, interrogating the data as necessary to fully inform action plans, for example in our Gender and Ethnicity pay gaps and other potentially measurable forms of bias
• Build consensus around the aims of the strategy and buy-in for the deliverables to bring it to life • Monitor and evaluate the implementation of the strategy and onward reporting through the EDI committee
• Undertake or oversee EDI impact assessments on any organisational restructure or policy change, guiding changes as necessary to reduce risk of unconscious bias or marginalisation of a particular group(s)
• Support the Chair of the EDI Committee as necessary which may include monitoring implementation plans to ensure programmes achieve the stated outcomes, producing papers and agreeing agendas as necessary
• Lead and develop the allocated team to deliver the strategy and plans, which includes but is not limited to ensuring SOAS’s successful application and implementation of Athena Swan, the Race Equality Charter and to become a Disability Confident Employer

Training and qualifications

• Educated to a postgraduate level and/or a relevant professional qualification, or equivalent expertise gained through relevant work experience. Knowledge and experience 
• Demonstrable ability to manage performance and development as a line manager, setting objectives, monitoring progress, giving constructive feedback, and conducting annual appraisals as well as recruiting and inducting new team members. 
• Successful track record of delivering successful outcomes though creating a vision, building consensus and where necessary leading by example in delivering tasks which make a difference 
• Experience of data analysis, interpretation, presentation, writing reports, identifying trends, plans, briefing documents, and developing and delivering on action plans
 • Demonstrable experience of developing and successful implementation of strategies 
• Experience of managing a varied and demanding workload, including planning effectively, prioritising work and meeting deadlines • An understanding of current legislation as it applies to equality, diversity, and inclusion 
• Highly developed specialist knowledge and experience across a range of EDI and Staff Wellbeing subjects including EDI and Staff Wellbeing policy, strategy development, reporting and metrics, establishment and management of staff networks.
