PURPOSE OF ROLE


Supported by funding from the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing, under WIRE’s Community Program, the Information Advocate creates, provides, and facilitates information services using the most impactful approach to individuals, groups and organizations by applying their critical thinking skills. This is delivered at the WIRE office, off-site or from outreach locations.

INFORMATION ADVOCATE RESPONSIBILITIES:

To provide support and access to information using an intersectional feminist practice and trauma-informed approach.

The incumbent will also undertake a number of important tasks to support WIRE and its work with the broader community through workshops, external training or other services. These tasks may be undertaken in blocks that are rotated among the team.

CORE TASKS:


Support individuals:
  • Conduct 1-1 supports (phone, email, web-chat, SMS, face to face or online);
  • Coordinate and deliver designated activities, e.g. clinics and community programs;
  • Create or update content responding to emerging community concerns for sharing online or in other ways.

Support WIRE:
  • Collect activity data to measure WIRE’s impact and contribute to new learning;
  • Supporting and contributing to the improvement of current and new processes or policy;
  • Act within WIRE’s Code of Conduct at all times.

ADDITIONAL TASKS:


Support community:
  • Share knowledge by conducting or supporting community education to community groups and professionals, providing support, information and referrals and promoting WIRE activities (supporting Community Engagement & Volunteer engagement strategy);
  • Assisting in the implementation of community projects;
  • Assist volunteers and students/interns with the delivery of information services including team lead the phone room;
  • Creating expert content for media distribution on WIRE platforms (including social media).

Support WIRE:
  • Collaborate with other WIRE staff to deliver WIRE consulting and training products;
  • Identify gaps and emerging needs of the community & initiate WIRE responses, including contribute to developing training products;
  • Contribute to data measurement & impact measurement projects across WIRE.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Knowledge of and personal commitment to gender equity and intersectional practice.
  • An ability to identify and utilise your own lived experience to inform your practice. (Diverse lived experience is desirable in this role.)
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate and deliver a range of programs such as information seminars, community education and clinics including setting up and maintaining booking systems and coordinating pro bono professionals and sector colleagues.
  • Demonstrate autonomy, and independence in time management and multi-tasking on-site and out of the office, including displaying initiative in responding to local requests.
  • Well-developed written and computer skills, including experience with Microsoft office suite.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across WIRE to review, refine and build upon service provision in response to community needs and funding requirements.
  • Driver’s license, Police Check and WWCC required.
