 Position Overview:
We seek a highly motivated and skilled Research Fellow to join our team parttime (3 days/week). The Research Fellow will play a critical role in supporting our advocacy efforts by researching human rights violations, particularly focusing on the African continent. The primary responsibilities will include contributing to Universal Period Review (UPR) submissions, preparing Spotlight reports, and analysing human rights trends affecting the LGBTIQ+ community. Key

Responsibilities:
1. Conduct Research:
• Conduct in-depth research on human rights violations targeting the LGBTIQ+ community across the African continent.
• Collect and analyse data from various sources, including reports, news articles, and first-hand accounts.
• Stay abreast of developments and trends related to LGBTIQ+ rights and human rights in Africa.

2. Universal Period Review (UPR):
• Support the preparation of UPR submissions, focusing on documenting human rights violations and making recommendations for improvement.
• Collaborate with team members to ensure UPR submissions reflect the latest research findings and advocacy priorities.

3. Spotlight Reports:
• Assist in developing Spotlight reports highlighting specific human rights issues faced by the LGBTIQ+ community in select African countries.
• Compile evidence, case studies, and testimonies to illustrate the impact of human rights violations on LGBTIQ+ individuals and communities.

4. Data Analysis and Reporting:
• Analyse research findings to identify patterns, trends, and emerging issues related to human rights violations
• Prepare written reports, briefs, and presentations summarising research findings for internal and external stakeholders

5. Advocacy Support:
• Provide research support to advocacy campaigns and initiatives to address human rights violations and promote LGBTIQ+ rights.
• Collaborate with advocacy teams to develop evidence-based strategies and interventions.

6. Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in human rights, international relations, social sciences, or a related field (master’s degree preferred). 
• Demonstrated experience in researching human rights issues, focusing on LGBTIQ+ rights and Africa. 
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail. 
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. 
• Familiarity with international human rights mechanisms, such as the Universal Periodic Review (UPR), is desirable. 
• Proficiency in relevant research methodologies and tools
