Movement building
About Wedu
Wedu is building a world where half of all leaders are women. We nurture and invest in women's purposeful leadership journeys and mobilise allies and communities towards alternative futures where women leaders thrive. Since 2012, we have strengthened and sustained the unique leadership journeys of over 5,000 women from 29 countries across Asia by facilitating long-term mentorship, delivering leadership development training, convening supportive communities, and financing continuing education goals through Income Sharing Agreements (ISAs).
Duties & Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
As the Executive Director, you are responsible for setting Wedu’s overall direction and operation, as well as the day-to-day management of the organisation.
● Leads the implementation of Wedu’s strategic plan to advance its mission and goals, together with the Board of Directors and team.
● Monitors the extent to which Wedu’s actions remain true to its values and practices, and guides the monitoring, evaluation, and learning of Wedu’s strategic framework.
● Represents Wedu in a variety of capacities and spaces, developing and responding to new opportunities for our work.
Enabling a Strong Organisational Culture
● Fosters a shared leadership and collective care culture, supporting the staff and nurturing Wedu’s values: leading by example, showing up with courage, building collective power, and taking purposeful action.
Relationship-Building and Positioning of Wedu
● Builds upon Wedu’s strategic plan and leverages Wedu’s brand, network, and track record to build and lead a high-level communications and influencing strategy; identifies the actions, audiences, coalitions, and investments required to close the gender leadership gap within our lifetime.
Fundraising, Financial Oversight, and Governance
● Ensures Wedu’s annual operational budget of USD 1 million and oversees robust financial management of the organisation.
About You
● You demonstrate a passion for our mission and a commitment to using your skills to make a positive impact on gender equity. You bring a feminist and systems lens to strategic thinking, embrace feminist leadership, and are attuned to developments on women’s leadership in Asia.
● You are a visionary, versatile, and low-ego leader. You bring at least 10 years of experience, including at least 5 years at a director level, in relevant roles leading high-impact initiatives and organisations, ideally in the Asia regional context.
● You are a skilled and well-networked stakeholder manager with the ability to raise funds, forge relationships, and build trust with diverse audiences. You have a deep understanding of the regional gender equity landscape, and the ability to navigate it.
● You are a thoughtful relationship-builder who develops rapport easily and inspires trust. You have a warm, energetic, and authentic personality that translates to fostering lasting relationships with a range of personalities. You communicate and connect across cultural and regional differences, and operate from a place of deep respect for others.
● You have strong, persuasive, and compelling interpersonal skills with superior written and oral communication and presentation abilities.
