Project Summary

One fully funded project on the study of Work and career-related experiences of women from migrant backgrounds is available. This Joint PhD project will be primarily based at the University of Melbourne with a minimum 12-month stay at KU Leuven.

Project Details

Labour market participation rates of women from a migrant background remain low (Lee et al., 2022). They are often pushed into to lower quality jobs and more easily drop out of the workforce. Yet, there may also be more subtle relational and temporal dynamics that together lead to discouragement. Our aim is to study relational dynamics in the form of gender and racial micro-aggressions and temporal dynamics in influencing the career development of women from a migrant background. This ties in with the greater societal sensitivity for intersectionality, and with attempts to facilitate the access of migrant women to the labour market. We address this aim in three studies.
