ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is the specialized agency of the United Nations that promotes industrial development for poverty reduction, inclusive globalization and environmental sustainability. 
 
PROJECT CONTEXT
 
Project ID #240001: Industrial cooperation programme in the Global South through technology transfer from Japan (so-called Global South project)
The Government of Japan has requested UNIDO to support the sustainable industrial development of the countries in the Global South through investment promotion, new businesses development and technology transfer from Japan, by assisting in and strengthening cooperation between Japanese companies and partners of the Global South. It will eventually contribute to the overall industrial development and economic growth in the entire region of the Global South.
 

 
DUTIES
  • Desk review of existing literature and studies. 
  • Conduct a gender analysis of 12-15 selected demonstration proposals 
  • Based on the gender analysis, develop a gender-mainstreaming framework of the project in coordination with the Project Management Unit (PMU) that identifies opportunities and entry points for mainstreaming gender into the project and the 12-15 demonstrations. 
  • Assess and identify potential gender- differentiated impacts of the project and the demonstrations. 
  • Collect sex-disaggregated baseline data of the 12-15 demonstrations to be used to monitor potential gender impacts.Propose gender-mainstreaming related Key Performance Indicators (KPI) of the demonstrations. 
  • Guide and support Japanese companies to monitor the KPIs related to gender-mainstreaming while implementing their demonstrations.
  • Keep close coordination with the PM and Project Management Unit (PMU).
  • Participate in online coordination meetings with UNIDO Gender Team and other relevant Divisions/Units when requested. 
  • Prepare and submit an End-of-Assignment Report
  • Any other relevant tasks assigned by the PM. 
 
MINIMUM ORGANIZATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in Social or Natural Sciences or other relevant discipline, preferably with a specialization in gender and project cycle management, is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years practical experience in the field of gender equality and gender mainstreaming;
  • Formal training in gender analysis and gender planning and demonstrated expertise in mainstreaming gender in projects and programmes, especially in the specific area of intervention;
  • Thorough understanding of the gender context in Japan and the Global South countries, and experience working with government institutions and international or non-governmental organizations supporting gender and development work in the specific area of intervention;
  • Familiarity with gender analysis tools and methodologies in the specific area of intervention;
  • Strong communication skills, and the ability to liaise with various stakeholders, including government officials.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is required. Fluency or working knowledge in written and spoken Japanese is an asset.
