Background
The Women’s Environment and Development Organization (WEDO) is the fiscal sponsor (financial intermediary) of the Women's Major Group (WMG), and the Coordinator will be hired by WEDO on behalf of the Women’s Major Group. WEDO is a women’s global advocacy organization based in New York. Officially founded in 1991 in the run-up to the Earth Summit (UNCED, 1992,) WEDO has built a reputation as a trailblazer in promoting human rights, gender equality and the integrity of the environment, championing women’s rights particularly in sustainable development.
Scope of Consultancy
Core Work of the Consultancy
Administration & Logistical Coordination (60%)
- Coordination of travel and meeting logistics (both prior to and on-site) related to Agenda2030 meetings (and any related meetings OPs decide to work on), both in New York and internationally: book flights and hotels, manage meeting spaces, communicate details with partners, etc.;
- Coordination of travel granting process: disseminate application, monitor applicants, facilitate selection committees;
- Maintain budget and work with WEDO administration team to ensure timely reporting back on financial status to WMG OPs;
Advocacy and Strategy (20%)
- Support to Women’s Major Group Organizing Partners in preparation for Agenda2030 meetings: review and disseminate relevant policy and other documents; draft inputs to papers and meetings; identify relevant existing publications and positions of the WMG;
- Monitor progress of the Agenda2030 and its multiple inputs; track the meetings and opportunities in the process;
- Track upcoming meetings and opportunities in processes and mechanisms related to Agenda 2030;
- Participate in meetings with members of the WMG to communicate advocacy priorities to UN and government representatives, as well as civil society counterparts; coordinate report back from meetings;
Communications and Outreach (20%)
- Maintain and moderate the various WMG mailing lists (through Google groups);
- Contribution to the online presence of the WMG and communications strategy: draft, edit, post updates and news articles on the WMG site; update Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube;
- Directly liaise with any consultants hired to support writing, editing, communications and translation activities;
- Help coordinate global WMG OP outreach events such as webinars, side events, etc.
Qualifications of Consultant
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to prioritize among competing demands;
- At least 5 years of experience working in the feminist movement and, ideally, sustainable development, United Nations processes and/or other relevant international policy arenas;
- Experience working collaboratively, preferably through consensus building; experience in international coalitions and movement organizing is an asset;
- Familiarity with remote work, high level of comfort with online platforms;
- Experience working in international / regional settings;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, knowledge of another UN language is an asset;
- Passionate about to gender equality, women's human rights and sustainable development.
