Economic justice Gender-based violence (GBV) Movement building
About CMI! and the FER Working Group
The Count Me In! (CMI!) consortium is a strategic partner of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. CMI! consists of member organisations Mama Cash (MC), the Association for Women’s Rights in Development (AWID), CREA, Just Associates (JASS), and the Sister Funds Urgent Action Fund (UAF) and Urgent Action Fund Africa (UAF-Africa). The sex worker-led Red Umbrella Fund (RUF) and the Dutch gender platform WO=MEN are strategic partners of the consortium.

CMI! has two priority areas of change: eliminating Gender Based Violence (GBV) and Advancing Economic Justice. These themes intersect: GBV often leads to and intensifies economic inequality and vice versa - breaking out of a cycle of violence is impossible without the means of economic survival. In 2023 CMI! decided to adopt Feminist Economic Realities (FER) as one of its priorities for its collective work, with a dedicated Working Group (WG), and the development of a CMI! FER Strategy.

Overview of consultancy
Collection and Collation of FER Stories and Experiences
We are looking for a feminist consultant(s) to take on this work, ideally with a background in feminist economics and womxn’s economic justice. Familiarity and past experience with the discourse and practice of FERs and feminist economic alternatives (FEAs) is particularly desirable. The consultant(s) will have experience of feminist knowledge collection, collation, and presentation, with report writing experience and a track record of working directly with feminist and women’s rights organisations in the global South. They will have a background involving multi-actor, multi-country and multi-knowledge experience. The consultant will work closely with the CMI! FER Working Group with support from the CMI! FER Working Group Coordinator.

Overall approach
The roles and tasks of the consultant(s), include, but are not limited to:

2.       Develop an initial data collection plan / plan approach to share with FER Working Group
3.       Facilitate conversations with members of the CMI! consortium to help identify possible sources of FER stories and experiences both from within the consortium and beyond (as necessary).
4.       Develop a feminist methodological approach and toolset for the collection and collation of stories across the CMI! consortium and beyond.
5.       Facilitate conversations, sharing sessions, and/or other data collection approaches with womxn, communities, collectives and organisations living, advocating for, and working with feminist economic realities in practice,
6.       Prepare and present a preliminary oral presentation for the FER WG of emerging narratives from the process, along with a draft outline of the report
7.       Prepare first and second draft of the report as part of an iterative feedback process with the FER WG
8.       Finalise and present the final draft of the report
