Background
DCAF – Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance is dedicated to improving the security of states and their people within a framework of democratic governance, the rule of law, and respect for human rights with gender equality at its core. Since its founding in 2000, DCAF has contributed to making peace and development more sustainable by assisting partner states and international actors supporting these states, to improve the governance of their security sector through inclusive and participatory reforms. It creates innovative knowledge products, promotes norms and good practices, provides legal and policy advice, and supports capacity‐building of both state and non‐state security sector stakeholders.

The Gender and Security Division (GSD) leads DCAF’s work promoting gender equality in security sector reform and governance by providing policy advice, conducting practical research and implementing operational projects. In so doing, it ensures that DCAF’s stays at the forefront of knowledge in gender and SSG/R. The Division has 14 full- and part-time staff members s and we are looking for an experienced, dynamic, and creative individual to be our next:
The role
Under the supervision of a Project Manager, the Intern will provide support to the Division’s operational projects, as well as policy and research-focussed work, based on needs. The tasks could include but will not be limited to:
· Participating in project design, development, implementation, monitoring, budgeting and reporting;
· Undertaking literature reviews and desk research;
· Drafting talking points, social media posts and newsletter content;
· Participating in training and/or workshop content development;
· Providing administrative and logistic support such as note taking for project management and trainings, workshops and events;
· Participating in meetings with national and international partners, and conferences and events as relevant; and,
· Other duties as assigned.
Capacity development
The suggested tasks will allow the intern broad and deep insights into the work of DCAF in general, introducing the intern to the various aspects of SSR/G as well as to both operational work and to research and policy development. The suggested outline will also allow the intern to acquire a good knowledge of structures, functions, mechanisms, and policies that guide and form an international organisation such as DCAF.
Your profile
· A university degree or advanced progress in law, political sciences, gender studies, international relations, development, security studies or related field.
· Strong interest in gender and security, human rights or Women, Peace and Security.
· Familiarity with SSR/G a strong asset.
· Fluency in English; fluency in French a strong asset.
· Excellent writing skills in English.
· Strong commitment to principles of gender equality and the inclusion of diverse perspectives.
· Good organizational skills.
· Swiss or EU citizenship or valid work permit for Switzerland at the time of application is required.
