LGBTQI+ rights/ SOGIESC Sexual & reproductive rights (SRHR) Health
Background of the assignment/research
In conservative societies like Guyana, open discussions about sexual health and pleasure are often discouraged, leading to a lack of essential information that perpetuates harmful sexual practices and attitudes. The exclusion of LBT+ (lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and other gender non-conforming/expansive) individuals from relevant sex education exacerbates this issue, resulting in a dangerous knowledge gap that can have adverse consequences for their well-being. Given the large focus on men who have sex with men (MSM), LBT+ persons are often left out of the conversation, promoting the perception that they do not require adequate information and protection, which is incorrect. This project will centre LBT+ women and gender non-conforming/expansive persons, encouraging dialogue around sexual health and pleasure, regular STI screening and bodily autonomy.

The research aims to spotlight LBT+ women's understanding of sexuality-centred sex education.

Objectives:
1.      Conduct comprehensive research on the understanding of sexuality among LBT+ women in Guyana, focusing on sexual behaviours, attitudes, and knowledge gaps.
2.      Identify the unique challenges and barriers faced by LBT+ women in accessing inclusive and relevant sex education.
3.      Analyse existing policies related to sex education and identify areas where they may be improved or expanded to meet the needs of LBT+ individuals better.
4.      Disseminate research findings through publications, policy briefs, and presentations to inform the development of evidence-based interventions and policies.
