Roles and responsibilities
Reporting to the Head of Advocacy Communications, and working closely with the South Asia Consultant, the Global Lead on Ending Harmful Practices (EHP), and other members of the Programs team, the Consultant, as part of Equality Now’s Advocacy Communications Team, will undertake a range of tasks which will include:
South Asia work
- In consultation with partners and relevant Equality Now teams, develop and implement a communications strategy that amplifies our collective regional- level work and messaging in international and regional spaces.
- Lead on the SAMAJ (South Asia Movement for Accessing Justice) communications work:
- Plan and implement the SAMAJ launch during the Regional Convening in early May/June.
- Project manage the production (design, translation, and dissemination/promotion) of three Programs-drafted knowledge products (and potentially a webinar) for use by SAMAJ and at the regional convening
- Work with the South Asia team to determine communications support needs for the regional convening, and deliver on those support needs.
- Provide ongoing, as-needed communications support for SAMAJ
- Additional South Asia communications tasks.
Global Ending Harmful Practices work:
- Working with the Global Lead for Ending Harmful Practices (EHP) and other Program team members, create a communications strategy and activity plan that encapsulates global communication needs, sets a messaging framework for all EHP linked campaigns and maximizes key dates and moments to talk about our EHP work and impact at a global level to target audiences.
- Be responsible for global campaigns linked to EHP and all associated communication tactics, including report publications, thought leadership, events management, PR moments, social media content mapping, and media plans.
- Ensure all global assets, including EN website and printed items, are kept up to date and are of exceptional quality.
Communications work:
- Ensure South Asia and EHP work is represented in Equality Now’s global editorial calendar and internal communications by liaising with the Digital Lead and Communications Officer.
- Amplify the work of partners via Equality Now channels.
- Report on impact, performance, and milestones in relation to the Communications objectives identified.
- Work together with the team in the population of reports in line with donor priorities.
Skills and experience
- At least 3 years of working experience in communications in national, regional, or international contexts.
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills;
- A strong understanding of the regional and cultural context of South Asia, particularly with regard to gender justice and equality;
- Understanding/demonstrable experience of advocacy communications campaign strategy;
- Understanding/demonstrable experience of project management;
- A good all-rounder in ideating and delivering/executing communication tactics: events, PR; social media; press etc.
- Must have demonstrable track record in placing stories in media outlets and have journalist contacts;
- High-quality writing skills - that extend to digital channels, particularly social;
- A working understanding of how best to use digital and social platforms - i.e.X/ Facebook/ Instagram / LinkedIn in the South Asia region
- Fluent in English and Hindi or another major South Asian language (written and verbal);
