About this position
We are looking for a Gender and Diversity Specialist to join our Gender, Diversity and Inclusion (GDI) Division. You will contribute to our operational, economic, and sector work program in Latin America and the Caribbean, mainly focusing on our work in the Caribbean through (a) direct investment operations, (b) the mainstreaming of gender and diversity in other Bank operations, (c) technical assistance, and (d) knowledge generation.
Our Social Sector (SCL) is a multidisciplinary team convinced that investing in people is the way to improve lives and overcome the development challenges in Latin America and the Caribbean. Jointly with the countries in the region, the Social Sector formulates public policy solutions to reduce poverty and improve the delivery of education, work, social protection, and health services.
What you’ll do:
- Lead or participate in the origination, conceptualization, and preparation of operations with other team members and respective authorities. Lead or assist, in coordination with all relevant parties (executing agencies, fiduciary specialists, among others), in the supervision of the execution and the monitoring and evaluation of operations for which the IDB has approved financing.
- Contribute to transferring technical and operational knowledge to Caribbean entities in charge of the execution of IDB-financed operations.
- Conduct innovative research on gender and diversity topics of relevance in the Caribbean.
- Provide, through the work of the Division, technical support for mainstreaming gender and diversity issues in country strategies, loan and technical operations, policy dialogues, events, and knowledge initiatives. Lead or participate in projects to strengthen the availability and quality of gender- and diversity-disaggregated data from surveys, census, administrative, and other sources in the Caribbean.
- Engage in policy dialogue with Caribbean Government authorities and development partners based on your validated knowledge of the topics, development challenges of client countries, and IDB policies, strategies, and guidelines.
- Share and disseminate economic/sector knowledge and learning tools to enhance the relevance of the IDB to borrowing countries and the region.
- Manage project teams and resources effectively.
- Guide, coach, and mentor junior staff to develop technical expertise.
- Build networks and actively engage with gender and diversity specialists in other multilateral and bilateral institutions, academic institutions, think tanks, NGOs, and professional bodies to promote cooperative research initiatives.
What you'll need
- Education: Master’s degree in applied economics, public policy, social sciences, or related field. Ph.D. is preferred.
- Experience: At least 6 years of relevant and substantive development policy and operational experience that includes experience working on gender or diversity issues and deep knowledge of these issues in the context of different Caribbean countries.
- Languages: Proficiency in English. Fluency in at least one other Bank language (Spanish, Portuguese, or French) is a plus.
