TGEU is looking for a consultant who is able to work with trans communities and TGEU’s members in the European Union to understand what are their needs, the challenges they face, and what type of policies they want from the policy makers who will be elected to the European Parliament in 2024.

Background
TGEU (Transgender Europe) is a trans-led nonprofit for the rights and wellbeing of trans people in Europe and Central Asia. TGEU represents 200+ member organisations across 50 countries.

Task description
The EU Elections Consultant will work with the Policy Team, in close collaboration with TGEU’s members.

Key responsibilities
  • Organise a 90-minute online focus group of our members and particularly further marginalised community-members in the EU in February 2024 to gather information on their needs as we gear up for the European elections in June 2024.
  • Formulate an implementation plan using the outcome from the focus group.
  • Work with our partner organisations on election campaigning.
  • Prepare and organise a 2-day study visit to Brussels after the elections (likely in Quarter 3 2024). The study visit will involve among other things; a call for participants, selection of participants, logistics for the travel, working on an agenda, and organising meetings with newly elected MEP’s.
  • Write a 2-page document with the needs and challenges of our community. The brief will be shared with policy makers during the study visit.
  • Work with our communications team on a short video campaign informing EU policy makers.
Who we are looking for
For this position, we are looking for someone well versed in both the EU political climate and trans issues.

Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience in working with trans communities and knowledge of the specific challenges they face in different contexts within the European Union.
  •  Understanding of European Union structures, policies, and legislation, particularly in relation to human rights and equality would be an advantage.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively to various stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in English (written and spoken), with knowledge of additional EU languages being an advantage.
  • Strong organisational and project management skills, with the ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Sensitivity to diverse experiences within the trans community, including intersectionality and marginalised identities.
We encourage applications from trans, gender-diverse, and intersex people, Black, indigenous and Latinx people and people of colour, D/deaf and disabled people, people with a migrant background, and sex workers. TGEU seeks to encourage applications from trans women and trans feminine people.
