Consultancy Aim
The aim of this consultancy is to:
- Develop an online course on how to use participatory research methods while ensuring meaningful and ethical engagement of children, adolescents, survivors, and communities in child sexual violence research: this includes reviewing and synthesising existing information on courses on participatory CSV research conducted online; gathering and/creating high quality resources on participatory research and meaningful engagement; conducting an in depth needs assessment among SVRI grantees and other key stakeholders/experts to gauge their experience with participatory CSV research and identify specific capacity strengthening needs in the field; developing and testing a brief course module that includes all the materials and activities needed with emphasis on interactive learning; and, liaising with existing partners to integrate various contributions to course modules content.
- Deliver online course within SVRI platform.
More specifically, the consultant/s will:
Develop course content (in partnership with the SVRI and existing partners):
- Develop “the SVRI guide on participatory research methods, while ensuring meaningful engagement of children, adolescents, survivors, and communities in child sexual violence research”.
- Develop and finalise learning outcomes, course content and module structure for the online course.
- Develop the online course, including developing and/or producing course content, activities, assessments, and other relevant materials (fully cited with a compendium of additional high-quality resources).
Integrate the course modules within SVRI’s online training platform:
- Liaise with SVRIs team to develop the online learning platform and upload all components for the participatory research and meaningful engagement of children, adolescents, survivors, and communities in child sexual violence research course.
Monitoring and management:
- Deliver and administer a pilot to test preliminary online course module content and undertake a review/lessons learnt analysis of pilot.
- Prepare the final online course module, ensuring it is ready for launch.
- Promote and market the online course in coordination with the SVRI.
Course content and structure
The course content should be designed to allow each of the target audiences for the course to cover core themed content. Other key components of the course module outline include:
- Content shaped around 4-6 brief modules.
- Each module to take approximately 2-3 hours to complete.
- A completion certificate issued at the end of the course.
Indicative course outline (order of topics is flexible)
- Introduction to key concepts and considerations on child participation, participatory research,
- Adolescent and youth-led research
- How to involve young people in research without overburdening them
- Survivor centred child sexual violence
- Participatory research methods such as PhotoVoice
- Enhancing ownership of data and decision-making by communities and participants
- Key ethics issues and considerations
- Include case studies from LMICs throughout
