Context of Role:
This is a role for a seasoned intergovernmental SRHRJ expert with experience working in UN contexts in NY and Geneva to lead IPPF’s political advocacy work. With 140+ MAs and collaborative partners, IPPF has built deep connections among civil society, intergovernmental, and UN partners so that MAs can bring their lived experiences and policy ambitions to UN processes to influence change, participate on their country delegations to advocate for progressive SRHRJ policies, and hold their governments accountable for their commitments. IPPF is uniquely positioned to advance this work because our MAs represent the needs of their countries in UN for a. Our UNLO’s NY and Geneva teams work daily to build IPPF’s presence within the UN in service of MA objectives and priorities, including linking to regional intergovernmental processes as well.
Deliverables:
• Works as part of the External Relations – Global Unit to promote, position, develop and grow the work of the Federation.
• Positions IPPF as a brave, bold, and proactive SRHRJ leader, responsive to the most critical and urgent issues that impact SRHRJ, intersectionality, the rights of women, girls, LGBTQI+ individuals, and all underrepresented and underserved people, particularly in the context of UN processes happening in the first half of 2024.
• Advances diplomatic objectives based on experience working in and with governments to form effective partnerships to advance shared objectives, build new alliances with those in the middle, and effectively counter radical opposition, regressive, and false narratives.
• Works as part of the Global Secretariat External Relations team to deliver Strategy 2028. Works with national, regional, and global colleagues, creating space for their voice in the instances where regional and national colleagues can speak out and/or are better placed to employ backchannel advocacy.
• Represents IPPF on political advocacy and in external forums along with the External Relations Director and Director for Solidarity for Change and Voice.
• Adheres to the safeguarding reporting and monitoring requirements of this role.
Reporting/Management Responsibility:
• The IPPF UN Representative guides the International Advocacy Officer in Geneva and the Senior UN Advocacy Adviser in NY.
• Responsible for operating the budget of the Geneva and NY offices following financial compliance regulations.
• Multilingual preferred. English fluency essential. Ability to work in Arabic, French, or Spanish advantageous.
• Excellent time management and organizational skills to meet multiple, overlapping, and tight deadlines
