The role of the Fundraising Consultant is to source and onboard major donors to advance Nalafem’s fundraising and awareness raising efforts, and to create and oversee the implementation of the organization’s fundraising strategy. The position is responsible for identifying, initiating introductions, and building relationships with top prospective foundations, corporations, and individual donors.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategy Development and Execution
- Develop and implement a fundraising strategy in line with Nalafem’s 5 Year Strategy through careful research and analysis;
- Support the development of foundational documents and appropriate supporting documents to guide the philanthropic strategy;
- Identify best practices and lessons learned directly linked to fundraising activities and contribute to early monitoring and evaluation efforts;
- Understand how major stakeholders are thinking about the organization’s direction, generally and in reference to specific initiatives, through interviews with these stakeholders;
- Develop accurate benchmarks to guide the projections.
Prospection and Relationship Building
- Work alongside the Nalafem President and executive Director to define the pitch used in donor meetings;
- Identify prospective mid-level and high-net-worth donors globally that identify with Nalafem’s values;
- Work with the Nalafem President, Executive Director and Council Members to identify prospects from their networks and develop appropriate cultivation strategies to secure high-level gifts;
Reporting
- Manage and track all donor information, and develop stewardship programs aimed at cultivating deeper ties with donors;
- Establish and maintain regular donor reporting mechanisms;
- Manage the planning and reporting process, track project funding progress, and provide
- analysis on deviations to plan implementation and financial performance;
- Develop high-quality financial and narrative reports, ensuring consistency, accuracy, clarity and timely submission in compliance with Nalafem as well as donor contractual requirements;
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required
- At least 5 years of professional experience in the nonprofit development field, and a proven record of securing major contributions from foundations, corporations, and additional sources; experience working for nonprofit(s) of similar scope and size is a plus.
- An acute understanding of the data infrastructure required for systematic resource mobilization.
- Superior interpersonal and communications skills and capacity to build excellent relationships with key stakeholders, particularly with high-level individuals in a multinational environment.
- Experience researching and securing funds from organizations; access to high net worth databases and subscriptions to capacity research tools is a plus.
- Proven experience of having expanded and cultivated existing donor relationships over time.
- Comfort with and/or experience of operating in a lean, start-up environment.
- Strong communication in written and speaking English and French is a strong bonus.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail.
