LGBTQI+ rights/ SOGIESC
Advocacy and policy strategy development
  • Lead on development and implementation effective policy and advocacy strategies with regional institutions, government or other relevant actors aiming at setting standards for LGBTI rights and fostering implementation of relevant legislation and policies to achieve legal, political and social change for LGBTI people in Europe and Central Asia
  • Take a leading role in monitor the external and institutional environment, assess  opportunities  for  advocacy  of  human  rights  of  LGBTI  people  at  European level, and make proposals for strategic advocacy and appropriate responses and cooperation by ILGA-Europe
  • Provide advice on advocacy strategies and policy positions to support the work of local, national and regional LGBTI organisations where it contributes to accelerating change and setting standards and good practices in the region 
 
Strategic Partnerships and Alliance-Building 
  • Build and maintain strategic partnerships and coalitions with allies, such as NGOs, professional networks, regions, public administration and other relevant organisations and actors (e.g. researchers, legal experts, etc.) to support implementation of LGBTI rights in all areas of life
  • Facilitate connection between relevant LGBTI organisations, allies and partners, with a view of ensuring exchange of good practices and synergies between actions carried out by different stakeholders in a given area of work
  • Support the Advocacy Director in developing and maintaining a high profile for ILGA-Europe with external stakeholders (European institutions, intergovernmental organisations, statutory bodies, and other relevant actors) and in mobilising key stakeholders to support legal and policy change 

 
Capacity building and mobilisation 
  • Develop  and  implement  capacity  building  activities  and/or tools to  enable  national or regional LGBTI organisations  to successfully advocate for the human rights of LGBTI people and social justice at European level, and to meaningfully engage in ILGA-Europe’s  advocacy  and  campaigning  activities  
  • Conduct assessment needs of national LGBTI groups and the movement in relation to the advocacy priorities set out in the strategic plan of ILGA-Europe. 

 
WHAT SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES ARE WE LOOKING FOR?


At ILGA-Europe we understand that not all individuals have the same opportunities to engage in paid work within the LGBTI movement, and value the experience brought in from other areas of work and life. To fit this role well, you should be strongly committed to working for human rights and equality, and have competencies and demonstrated experience in:

  • Proven expertise in human rights international standards and equality issues, including as they relate to lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and intersex people
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically
  • Excellent political judgment and understanding of political dynamics and international institutional frameworks
  • Due to the regional focus of the work, a working knowledge of written and spoken Russian will be a strong advantage.
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to develop evidence-based policy proposals
  • Excellent communication skills (writing and presentation), including a high standard of written and spoken English; capacity to explain complex issues simply, concise and clear for diverse audiences
