Climate & Environmental justice Gender-based violence (GBV)
Co-Lead of What Works 2 (50% of role) 
•       Drive the delivery the External Engagement and Influencing Strategy alongside the Global Communications Strategy for the What Works 2 Programme. Lead regular monitoring and evaluation of the performance against these objectives, and ensure implementation as required, in liaison with consortium stakeholders, including FCDO.  
•       Co-lead the What Works 2 Ford Foundation activities for regional level engagement and communications towards a more supportive policy and funding environment for evidence based VAWG prevention and supporting the development and implementation of national and regional communications plans. 
•       Chair regular meetings with Co-Lead counterpart and represent the External Engagement and Influencing strand at relevant What Works Programme internal coordination and management meetings. 

CIUK Thought leadership and analysis (Gender) 
•       Work as a senior member of the advocacy team to build CIUK’s profile and reputation as a thought leader with key policy makers on gender equality in humanitarian and climate action. 
•       Provide high quality policy-related analysis where needed to influence key stakeholders to deliver change objectives 
•       Research, write, and deliver briefings and produce parliamentary engagement asks on CARE International UK advocacy priorities on gender equality, working closely with colleagues to further political engagement and action. 
 
Building CIUK external profile with UK decision makers 
•       Develop strong and constructive relationships between CARE and senior policy-makers and other officials in target institutions – particularly the UK Government 
•       Build an effective intelligence base on key policy and political contacts for CARE in areas of responsibility ensuring that we are effectively engaging with the right contacts with the right approach 
•       Monitor policy processes in relevant government departments, adjoining institutions and UK Parliament to identify advocacy opportunities and to inform on-going planning of advocacy strategies 
 
Campaigns and Communication 
•       Work closely with the Communications Team to ensure a joined-up approach between CIUK’s policy influencing function and its communications outputs as appropriate. 
•       Act as an effective spokesperson for CARE in the public policy arena and in relevant broadcast and press media. 
•       Support the Communications Team to develop effective key policy messages and public positioning statements. 
 
Strategic planning and management 
•       Co-lead and/or provide inputs to a range of fundraising pitches and grants by CIUK and other CARE entities.  
•       Support Head of Team to identify donor opportunities where appropriate, seeking out new funding for CARE’s broader advocacy. Negotiations with philanthropy and potential funding partners. 
•       Manage consultants and oversee/manage staff, as required.

Person Specification
•       Excellent communication skills in English, oral and written, with ability to summarise complex issues into plain English. 
•       Strong project management skills. 
•       The ability to deliver successful advocacy strategies that result in measurable change on the ground. 
•       The ability to work in multiple teams and promote collaboration across different teams and departments. 
•       Strategic thinking and planning. 
•       High level of understanding of UK Government, relevant political institutions and/or advocacy methodology. 
Experience of using social media/communications platforms to advance advocacy objectives
