The position

ILGA World is seeking a staff person to manage the ERC secretariat for an initial period of two years with a possible extension after the two years. The ERC secretariat manager is accountable to the ERC Executive Committee and is supervised by the Executive Director of ILGA World. 

Responsibilities

  1. Ensuring the operations of the Secretariat in accordance with its mandate and responsibilities, and ensuring its good governance.
  2. Supporting the Executive Committee to develop an annual coordinated ERC work plan (covering cross-cutting and Thematic Group priorities) to deliver on the strategic plan (including objectives, corresponding activities, calendar, and budget), and to monitor it.
  3. Support the recruitment and manage the other ERC Secretariat staff.
  4. Oversee and/or implement the activities of the ERC Secretariat 
  • a. Leading communications and the organisation of regular meetings of the ERC Executive Committee, Coordinating Committee, CSO Core Group, and Thematic Groups.
  • b. Issuing reports and notes of all key meetings of the ERC in a timely manner, ensuring communications across all members in languages (English and Spanish, at least) supported by the ERC.
  • c. Administration and management of the ERC website.
  • d. Regular communications to all ERC members using the ERC platform (its website and mailing lists) and publishing relevant information for the benefit of the ERC membership.
  • e. Supporting the ERC executive committee and civil society core group in developing the content for periodic conferences, ensuring consultation across the ERC to ensure participation and representation of all interests.
  • f. Drafting the ERC annual report for the approval of the Executive Committee.
  • g. Maintaining up-to-date contact lists of ERC members (Member State, other affiliated international and regional bodies and civil society).
  • h. Maintaining historical records of all ERC-related activity and documents.
  • Assisting with substantive work where requested - i.e., drafting and/or coordinating input into ERC statements or policy documents and reports, supporting thematic groups to develop work plans.
  • i. Organizing translation for all written documents (depending on resources).
  • j. Logistical support to Member State co-chairs and civil society co-chairs for the delivery of ERC periodic conferences (depending on resources).
  • k. Maintaining the Secretariat budget, including yearly reports to the Executive Committee. l. Leading future fundraising efforts for the support of the ERC Secretariat.

Requirements
The successful candidate should be strongly committed to working for human rights and equality, and have competencies and demonstrated experience in the following areas:
  • Global partnership experience: At least 5 years of experience of successfully working in global partnerships and experience in managing similar organizational set-ups.
  • Organizational capacity: Demonstrate the ability to embed a Secretariat function independently.
  • Collaboration and prioritization: Experience working in collaboration with different stakeholders and prioritizing work based on pressing needs.
  • Staff supervision: At least 3 years of experience of successfully supervising staff, preferably in remote working settings.
