Objectives of the Consultancy
1.Examine existing data and develop a feminist analysis of the Sahel poly crises.
The consultancy will entail:
- Conducting a comprehensive desk review and analysing relevant literature, reports, and documents related to the polycrisis in the Sahel region and how it impacts feminist organising and womn's rights in Francophone West Africa.
- Reviewing and analysing existing policies, legal frameworks, and initiatives related to feminist organising and womn's rights in the Sahel region and other Francophone West African countries highlighting gaps and areas for improvement.
- Identify and document successful initiatives, projects, strategies, and interventions undertaken by womn's rights organisations, feminist activists, Feminist and Womn's Funds, womn human rights defenders in the region and other comparable contexts.
Required qualifications of the student/researcher
• A PhD researcher in social sciences, international relations, political sciences (especially political theory and geopolitics), or related fields.
• In-depth knowledge of West Africa and the Sahel region and its socio-political, economic, and legal context.
• Strong research and analytical skills, including the ability to gather and synthesise information from various sources.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and French.
Deliverables
- An analytic and politicised report highlighting findings from the research and comprehensive responses to the research questions.
- An extensive literature review that can inform the development of the Sahel policy brief.
Required qualifications of the consultant
The consultant must have the following qualifications:
• Master’s degree in social sciences, international relations, political sciences (especially political theory and geopolitics), or related fields.
• Minimum ten years experience working in a similar context.
• Demonstrated expertise in critical feminist analysis, gender justice, womn's rights, and policy analysis.
• Strong research and analytical skills, with a track record of producing high-quality reports or policy briefs, including the ability to gather and synthesise information from various sources.
• In-depth knowledge of West Africa and the Sahel region and its socio-political, economic, and legal context.
• Experience working with feminist and womn's rights organisations, defenders, and relevant stakeholders in the francophone region.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and French
