Gender-based violence (GBV)
Accountabilities & Functional responsibilities
The Addressing Sexual Violence Associate will be responsible for providing administrative and technical support to the HQ team as well as operational colleagues. Approximately 85% of the Addressing SV Associate’s time be to:

  • Manage ICRC’s online ‘Community of Practice’ on addressing sexual violence, which is the central platform for all ICRC staff working on sexual violence to share experiences, lessons learned, best practices and ask questions.
  • Prepare draft and edit briefing notes, speeches and statements, articles and institutional papers on issues related to sexual violence in armed conflicts and other situations of violence for internal and external use;
  • Review and monitor guidance documents, reports and other materials produced by other ICRC units or external stakeholders to ensure consistent messaging on sexual violence;
  • Support the representation of the Sexual Violence Team at relevant internal and external meetings, draft agendas and minutes of meeting, and follow up as necessary
  • Assist in the organization of events and training courses related to sexual violence;
  • Provide administrative and coordination support to ongoing research and projects related to the issue of sexual violence, as applicable
  • Realize briefings/debriefings of ICRC staff on the issue of sexual violence and advertise the core related documents.
Approximately 15% of the Addressing SV Associate’s time will be devoted to supporting the Head of Health Care in Danger (HCiD). This will include the following functions:

  • Information management of HCiD databases
  • Draft and prepare external public communications for the HCiD website and/or social media
  • Ad-hoc support drafting public speaking points, particularly around April/May (SC, POC week, Anniversary for Resolution 2286, WMA). 

Certifications / Education required
  • Master's degree in humanitarian action, gender studies, international relations or law, sociology, history, anthropology, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated strong interest in and knowledge of issues relating to sexual and gender-based violence.
  • Demonstrated interest working in communication in online fora/social media.
  • Knowledge of areas related to protection and humanitarian assistance.
  • Knowledge of the ICRC mandate, its operations, and modalities of work
  • Capacity for analysis and synthesis of complex ideas.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and strong capacity to work as part of a team.
  • Excellent English language report writing skills (C2 level proficiency). Working level of French or Arabic highly desirable.
  • Strong organizational and coordination skills.
  • Demonstrated sense of initiative and capacity to work independently under minimal supervision.

Professional Experience required
  • Technical knowledge of sexual and gender-based violence
  • Previous experience working on sexual and gender-based violence in humanitarian contexts, preferably in operations (minimum one year)
  • Previous presentation, facilitation, and/or training experience
