Gender equality and Social inclusion (GESI)
Austrian Red Cross (AutRC) is looking for an experienced and motivated Protection, Gender and Inclusion (PGI) Advisor, providing technical advice, support and strategic oversight to AutRC supported development and humanitarian operations implemented by our Red Cross partners in Ethiopia, Uganda and Rwanda. The main role of the PGI advisor is to strengthen PGI capacities of respective Red Cross Partners to apply IFRC PGI Policy and Minimum Standards for Protection, Gender and Inclusion and support a gender transformative approach on institutional, programmatic and community level. The overall purpose of the position is to ensure that AutRC programmes and operations are inclusive and supportive of women empowerment and add value for girls and boys, women and men, from different backgrounds and abilities in the intersection of WASH, livelihoods and climate change. AutRC’s engagement builds on localization, impact and enhanced cooperation with partners from the Red Cross and Red Crescent.

GENDER ADVISOR – EAST AFRICA REGION

Your tasks and responsibilities

  • Providing technical PGI advise for a Regional Program on increasing women empowerment and gender equality in the sectors of WASH and Emergency Medical Services
  • Providing support for Partner Red Cross Societies for strengthening their PGI capacities on institutional, policy, programmatic and community level
  • Contributing to the strategic planning of AutRC long-term PGI, National Society Development, WASH and Emergency Medical Services engagement in East Africa as well as to the overall coordination of programmes in the East Africa region, in close cooperation with the AutRC Team Leader Africa and Regional Programme Coordinator
  • Representation of AutRC in East Africa with a focus on PGI, networking and liaising with movement partners as well as national, regional and international stakeholders
  • Contribution to the design of new programmes/projects (logframes, budgets, narratives) and identification of funding opportunities within the region for current and planned AutRC engagement
  • Management support to AutRC programmes and projects at country level in Ethiopia, Uganda and Rwanda in close cooperation with Host National Societies (HNSs) and other partners.

Your profile
  • Relevant university or similar education
  • A post graduate degree in gender, women’s economic empowerment or rural livelihoods is highly desirable
  • At least 5 years relevant work experience managing a gender portfolio
  • Knowledge and understanding of institutional, legal and policy frameworks at national and local level that impact the status of women in the selected countries of intervention
  • Experience in East Africa
  • Experience in general project management and financial management of projects
  • Ability to work under pressure in a diverse team
  • Very good English verbal and written communication skills
  • Strongly motivated by humanitarian and development work, and high sensitivity to diversity and local culture
