Key responsibilities

  • Undertake high-quality research within the field of Gender and War, publish the findings in highly-rated internationally recognized journals, and participate in major internationally recognized academic networks 
  • Take responsibility for the planning, organisation and delivery of both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching activities within the Department 
  • Supervise postgraduate student dissertations. 
  • Develop and use a variety of methods to assess student learning and provide feedback that is timely, relevant and appropriate 
  • Attend meetings and conferences to share and present research findings, which creates a professional network and enhances the national and international standing of the Department 
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties that may be requested by the Head of Department 
  • Carry out administration as requested by the Head of Department

Skills, knowledge, and experience 

Essential criteria

1.      PhD awarded on a topic relevant to Gender and War Studies. 
2.      Emerging track record in research dissemination and a research agenda 
3.      Ability to work independently and as part of a team 
4.      A proven track record of excellent teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students 
5.      Willingness to contribute to diversity and inclusion efforts within the department 
6.      Advanced communication skills, both oral and written 
7.      Capability to be in post from January 2024. 
8.      For an appointment at Grade 7, candidates must have a PhD thesis published or in press as a monograph AND at least 2 papers published/ in press in peer-reviewed journals; OR at least 4 research papers published/in press in peer reviewed journals. 
9.      For an appointment at Grade 7, candidates must also show proven ability in and experience of academic, teaching or research leadership. 

Desirable criteria
1.      Experience of innovative curriculum design 
2.      Experience of interacting with non-academic stakeholders  
3.      Experience in supervising MA dissertations
