Eligibility
The FCRJ PhD Studentship is tenable for three years for a home student and covers full fees. This scholarship is targeted at students’ resident in the United Kingdom who come from working class, first generation higher education, the Global South, Black, Asian, or other minority ethnic and underrepresented groups in the UK higher education system. The award will be made based on academic merit and research potential. This relates both to your past academic record and to an assessment of your likely ability to complete a PhD in your chosen topic in the time allocated.

We especially welcome candidates who are interested in developing research projects that align to the work being developed by the Feminist Centre for Racial Justice. Broad thematic areas we are interested in:

  1. Migration and Diasporas which includes explorations of domestic migrant labour.
  2. Policing, Borders, and Carceral Frameworks
  3. Reparative Justice
  4. Feminism and Climate Just Transitions
  5. Transnational Solidarity and Racial Justice
  6. Queer and Racially Just Utopias
  7. Black, pan African Archive and Racially Just Futures

Candidate Criteria and Application Process
  1. Applications are welcome from candidates who adopt an inter and transdisciplinary, transnational approach to the themes above.
  2. Applicants are encouraged to explain in their applications how their profile and research plans would fit the Centre’s work.
  3. Applicants must meet the standard eligibility entry criteria for PhD study at SOAS University of London
  4. Applicants must apply for admission via the SOAS University of London application form clearly stating that they are also applying for the SOAS Feminist Centre for Racial Justice PhD Scholarship
  5. Applicants should also separately fill in this application form for the Feminist Centre for Racial Justice scholarship.
  6. The assessment committee will simultaneously consider the applicant for admission to the SOAS PhD programme as well as their suitability for this scholarship.

Eligible programmes
  1. Any full-time PhD Programme in Politics and International Studies
  2. New admissions, starting September 2024

Candidate Assessment
  1. Candidates will be assessed based on the information provided in their online admission application for admission.
  2. One award will be granted to the strongest applicant based on an assessment of their academic excellence, research potential, the strength of their research proposal and fit with the remit of the centre’s work.

  1. The deadline for receiving applications is 29th February 2024, by 12:00 PM local time UK.
  2. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
