1. Key Responsibilities 

1.1 RESEARCH AND RESEARCH TRAINING 
  • Participate in research independently and as a member of a research team.  
  • Ownership of defined elements of the research projects including components of the mixed-methods formative research, process evaluations, and systematic reviews.  
  • Contribute to data collection and analysis, using specialised programs for qualitative and quantitative data assessment such as Stata and Atlas.ti 
  • Lead and contribute to publications arising from scholarship and research, such as publication in peer reviewed journals.  
  • The production of conference and seminar papers and publications and presentations at conferences and seminars where appropriate.  
  • Supervision or co-supervision of honours, Masters of Public Health, and PhD research projects within research area.  
  • Occasional contributions to teaching within research field as appropriate.  

1.2 LEADERSHIP AND SERVICE 
  • Actively participate at School and/or Faculty meetings and with guidance, contribute to planning activities or committee work to support capacity-building in the School. 
  • Identification of sources of funding to support individual or collaborative projects, relating to teaching, research and engagement practice in the discipline.  
  • Effective training of research support staff where required.  
  • Participate in community and professional activities related to the relevant disciplinary area.  
  • Effective demonstration and promotion of University values including diversity and inclusion and high standards of ethics and integrity.  
  • Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) and Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) responsibilities as outlined in section 5. 

2. Selection Criteria 

2.1 ESSENTIAL 
  • PhD or equivalent in public health or related field.  
  • Demonstrated working experience in public health or related field.  
  • Demonstrated research expertise in substantive area of maternal health, reproductive justice, health inequalities or related fields. 
  • An emerging profile in both independent research and as a member of a research team, as evidenced by the production of research publications and/ or other work experience in quality peer-reviewed journals and other scholarly outputs. 
  • Demonstrated ability to apply research methodologies including quantitative and/or qualitative research in low- and middle-income countries, and systematic reviews. 
  • Demonstrated interest and desire to improve women’s health in low and middle-income countries.  
  • Capacity to attract external funding.  
  • High level written and oral communication skills including the ability to communicate with a range of stakeholders from policy and research environment.  
  • Excellent organisational skills and demonstrated ability to manage time and work to deadlines.  

2.2 DESIRABLE 
  • Demonstrated experience in working effectively in a multi-disciplinary academic environment.  Experience in the supervision or co-supervision and mentoring of honours and postgraduate students and other staff.  
  •  Experience in teaching at the post-graduate level in public and/or women’s health.  

2.3 OTHER JOB RELATED INFORMATION 
  • Occasional work out of ordinary hours related to online meetings or calls with research collaborators working in other time zones.  
  • Will require international travel.
