Job description
DMI seeks to recruit an experienced Senior Social Behaviour Change and Gender Advisor for an anticipated USAID-funded program in Mozambique titled Improved MNCH, Immunization and Nutrition Activity. Please note, this position is contingent upon funding.
The Senior SBC and Gender Advisor role will include the following responsibilities:
- Provide technical leadership to the consortium in social behaviour change (SBC) and gender strategies implemented under the USAID Improved MNCH, Immunization and Nutrition project.
- Provide relevant capacity development, and/or technical assistance in gender and SBC activities to country-level personnel.
- Form part of the leadership team for the Improved MNCH and Immunization and Nutrition project.
- Support the development and roll-out of protocols to monitor the implementation of media and community-based SBC activities, in coordination with the wider programme team.
- Review and provide input into Improved MNCH and Immunization and Nutrition technical strategies, workplans, tools, frameworks, and guidelines to ensure SBC and gender are appropriately incorporated.
- Keep abreast of, and contribute to, relevant Improved MNCH and Immunization and Nutrition technical guidance and technical literature, particularly in relation to SBC and gender.
- Develop and maintain relationships with governmental and non-governmental institutions, USAID missions and other MNCH, immunisation and nutrition implementors across Mozambique.
- Represent the Improved MNCH and Immunization and Nutrition consortium externally at meetings, forums, and conferences.
- Other tasks as required by DMI and the Improved MNCH and Immunization and Nutrition consortium.
Person specification
Required knowledge, skills and experience

- Bachelors required, master a plus, or equivalent and verifiable professional experience, in Public Health, Behaviour Change, Social Science, Development, Communications, or a related field.
- At least 8-10 years’ general professional experience, including at least 7 years’ experience in the design, implementation, and monitoring/evaluation of SBC and/or gender components within donor-funded public health programmes, preferably in Mozambique.
- Familiarity with USAID regulations, guidelines, and reporting requirements.
- Demonstrable knowledge and experience in designing and managing effective SBC activities.
- Experience of working with local and/or national governments and capacity strengthening systems, partners, and staff, as well as familiarity with USAID’s Local Capacity Strengthening Policy and localization commitments.
- Demonstrable knowledge and experience in the fields of maternal, newborn, and child health (MNCH), nutrition, and/or childhood immunization.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in cross-cultural, multi-lingual teams.
- Strong written and oral communication skills in both English and Portuguese.
Desirable knowledge, skills and experience
- Experience working on USAID projects.
- Formal training in and demonstrated understanding of SBC theories and frameworks, and familiarity with the current SBC literature.
