Media and public relations
  • To ensure ILGA-Europe has strong day-to-day working relationships with key journalists working on European affairs and LGBTI issues in the region in order to have a better understanding of the information they need and adapt our communications output accordingly.
  • To coordinate and respond to press and other enquiries
  • To proactively connect and build relationships with journalists, editors and other relevant contacts

Content development
  • To project manage the publication of the ILGA-Europe Annual Review (part of the Rainbow Europe package) with staff members, contributors and consultants
  • To contribute to drafting and editing of other content in ILGA-Europe’s Rainbow Europe package 
  • To write, proofread, edit and publish all types of ILGA-Europe content directed at external audiences (e.g. position papers and briefings, website content, blogs, publications, campaign narratives, etc.), in a consistent style and tone


Capacity-building
  • Together with the Programmes Team, develop training materials and modules to strengthen the capacity of national LGBTI organisations on strategic communication, including developing and writing materials for The Hub, ILGA-Europe’s free resource sharing centre
  • To develop materials to enhance the capacity of journalists to work on LGBTI issues, and update existing ones.

General 
  • To support the Communications Director in the monitoring of the effectiveness, efficiency, quality and equality of the communications team’s work and to bring forward proposals for continuous improvement
  • To be accountable for the achievement of the agreed inputs related to the officer’s portfolios as defined in the annual work programmes 
  • To manage financial aspects of projects and activities, which fall within the post holder’s direct responsibility: budgeting, monitoring of budget implementation, financial reporting to funders, fundraising for new initiatives, and sustaining excellent relations with donors, in conjunction with Communication Director and Finance Manager 

 
To fit this role well, you should be strongly committed to working for human rights and equality, and have proven competencies and demonstrated experience in:
  • Delivering media coverage and raising visibility of an organisation, including through building relationships with key media actors
  • Developing clear and accessible content for various communications channels (including traditional media, social media and reports)
  • Strong writing skills with an ability to tailor the tone, content and form of written output in line with a range of different audiences and to suit a variety of formats; you must have the ability to simplify information and communicate it in a lively, accurate and understandable manner
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically, creatively and to use initiative, and to find innovative ways to respond to emerging organisational needs
  • A professional capacity in written and spoken English
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with particular reference to networking, connecting to new people and working with a wide audience.
