Movement building
Strengthen internal finance control processes
Collaborate with the Finance Officer to;
- Update and implement AWDF’s due diligence frameworks.
- Assist in monitoring the in-house grant management systems and processes to identify fiduciary and other risks, such as non-compliance and delays
- Recommend and implement important mitigating measures and actions to support grantee partners as and when needed
Grantees finance analysis and assessment
In collaboration and consultation with the Finance Officer:
- Carry out regular financial management checks or verification of grantee partner documentation including verification of grant expenses, assessment of financial reports and regular review of the financial management systems of grantees.
- Review each grantee financial report to ensure that expenditures are reported against budget and, that any significant variances are noted and explained and that significant under- or over-performance against agreed budgets is elevated with the Finance Officer.
- Assist in supporting grantee external audit processes as and when needed.
Capacity building
- Assist in providing Financial Management guidance to the grantees directly and document any gaps identified.
- Provide support to grantees to strengthen grant management capacity and financial management arrangements.
- Support the Agency and Resilience team in developing and facilitating the financial management training for grantees
- Develop and recommend any actions that will strengthen grantee capacity to meet due diligence requirements
Team work
- Attend and participate in staff meetings as required
- Ensure confidentiality on all appropriate matters and recognise that any breach of confidentiality is a dismissible offence
- Handle sensitive information in an appropriate manner.
- Exhibit high integrity and dependability.
- Contribute to team spirit and the upholding of AWDF values and principles
Other
- The role holder will from time to time be required to carry out any other duties that are within the scope of the job.
Essential Knowledge and Experience
- Knowledge of accounting procedures, a commitment to excellence, and a sound, data-driven sense of judgement
- Handle sensitive information in an appropriate manner, including maintaining high levels of confidentiality.
- IT skills inclusive of MS Office, excel spreadsheets and other financial accounting software
- Excellent team spirit, presentation and interpersonal skills;
- Strong sense of integrity and continuous demonstration of honesty, transparency and accountability
- Strong command of written and spoken English including ability to document processes and prepare review findings. Working knowledge of French would be an advantage
- Must be self-confident and willing to learn
- Experience of using own initiative, with a proactive and problem- solving attitude.
- Prioritize work to meet goals and objectives within the acceptable time frames.
- Handle stressful situations with ease and composure
- An understanding of feminism and commitment to social justice, women’s rights and social change in Africa
Qualifications
- First Degree (or its equivalent) in accounting, finance, or related discipline plus intermediary level accountancy qualification
- 5 years’ experience in a financial/fiduciary role with proven experience in risk management, due diligence, audit or financial management
