Responsibilities
- With colleagues and stakeholders, lead the development and execution of a refreshed organization-wide research strategy that aligns with Funders for LGBTQ Issues strategic plan and our programmatic goals, and which meets the needs of our members and the larger LGBTQ rights movement.
- Develop, oversee, and project manage the day-to-day implementation of the organization's research program, including creating and managing departmental and project budgets, to advance Funders’ position as the leading information resource on foundation support of LGBTQ communities and causes.
- Lead and project-manage annual execution of our flagship LGBTQ foundation funding tracking report and related research products.
- Cultivate and maintain strong working relationships with peers in the philanthropic research field, including leading Funders’ work on short- and long-term collaborative research projects with partners such as CHANGE Philanthropy and the Global Philanthropy Project.
- Devise and implement appropriate policies to ensure the security and integrity of data collected in the course of Funders for LGBTQ Issues-led research projects.
- Liaise between the Research Department and the larger Funders for LGBTQ Issues staff, membership, and wider community, to ensure our research is widely used to support the organization's broader programmatic and other goals, and to support organizational fundraising.
- Lead development and implementation of advanced key performance indicators and other evaluation metrics to facilitate Funders for LGBTQ Issues’ tracking of progress towards internal goals and external impact on the philanthropic field, in accordance with our strategic plan.
- Supervise and manage other research program staff and consultants, including helping to advance their professional and career development, where appropriate.
Qualities and Attributes
- Strong project management skills involving complex long-term projects done in collaborative team environments.
- Familiarity and comfort with data management software and technology, including but not limited to Microsoft Excel.
- Has at least 6-8 years of relevant work experience.
- Ability to synthesize ideas in a succinct and compelling manner, to a wide variety of audiences.
- Self-starter with ability to work effectively as part of a small and highly motivated team.
- Ability to prioritize and juggle multiple projects and deadlines while advancing long-term organizational goals.
- Ability to translate complex research into accessible and impactful communications tools using data visualization and other communication techniques.
- Willingness to travel approximately once per month.
- Excellent writing and oral communications skills.
- A strong commitment to social justice combined with a pragmatic, problem-solving approach and an openness to understanding and engaging people and institutions representing diverse viewpoints and theories of change.
- Broad understanding, and commitment to LGBTQ people, social justice values, and, ideally, in-depth knowledge of at least one sub-population or issue, such as LGBTQ youth, HIV/AIDS and health issues, systemic violence against TGNC people, and advocating for BIPOC TGNC communities.
- Willingness to travel up to 1 trip per month.
