Climate & Environmental justice
The Government of the Gambia has received financing from the African Development Bank, toward the financing of the Vulnerable Youth and Women Support Project(VYWOSP). The project aims to provide vulnerable groups, particularly out-of-school youth, and women, with market-oriented skills and access to a range of services (non-financial, basic social services) to tackle the multidimensional aspect of poverty and vulnerability.T
To realize efficient and effective results, the management of the National Social Protection Secretariat needs accurate and up-to-date environment and and social safeguards and gender advice, constraints analysis, social, environmental and gender analysis and safeguard Management to explore options and take evidence-informed decisions to achieve short to medium-term goals.
The specialist will work to implement the environmental and social management plans and the gender action plan of the project. Duration of the ContractThe Environment and Social Safeguards and Gender Specialist will be recruited for a one-year contract, renewable after a satisfactory performance for the entire duration of the project implementation. The Specialist will be fully integrated into the project management unit. 

Qualifications and Experience Required:
•The Environmental, Social Safeguard, and Gender Specialist must have the following minimum qualifications:
•Advance university degree(Masters Degree)in Environmental Sciences, Geography, Sociology, Social Sciences or equivalent 
•Have at least five  (5)  years of experience in conducting or supervising environmental and social safeguard activities. 
•Demonstrate good knowledge of environmental and social safeguard policies of international institutions (African Development Bank, World Bank, etc.). 
•Knowledge of environmental and social policies as well as environmental and social laws and regulations of the Republic of Gambia would be an asset.
•Have participated in the realization of at least two (02) resettlement plans for projects financed by international institutions, of which at least one (01) was carried out in The Gambia or West Africa. 
•Have participated in the implementation of at least three (03) environmental and social management plans for projects financed by international institutions. 
•Experience in designing and applying activities and tools focusing on citizen engagement,   gender mainstreaming and social inclusion.
•Knowledge of standard computer tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).  National Social Protection SecretariatOffice of the Vice presidents BuildingKololi New Road, KololiThe Gambia
•Have initiative, organizational skills, ability, and capacity to work easily in a team. 
•Fluency in the  English language  (written and spoken).  Fluency in  French  (written and spoken)  would be an added advantage.
