• A paid work placement at a human rights organization, a university legal aid clinic, or government legal institution in Kenya, Malawi, The Gambia or South Africa carrying out groundbreaking work to end violence against women and children through legal representation and advice, strategic litigation and the innovative use of technology to inform women of their rights and make prosecutors and pro bono lawyers more efficient.
• Mentorship by the Justice for Women & Children Programme Director, host organizations’ supervisors and human rights experts from the region
• At least one in-person convening with other fellows and supervisors as well as senior CFJ leadership and an extensive monthly online training Programme led by human rights experts
• Access to a global network of leading human rights experts, lawyers, judges, activists and academics as well as other next-generation leaders.
• Enrollment in the CFJ Fellowship Alumni Programme network upon completion of the fellowship year for continued support, knowledge sharing and collaboration

• Required Qualifications
  • A law degree from a recognized academic institution
  • Practicing Certificate: The applicant must be admitted to practice as a lawyer in the country of the selected host organization
  • Relevant Work experience:
    • Up to 5 years of experience in the legal field following graduation from law school/qualification as a lawyer in your jurisdiction.
    • Experience in women’s rights and working in human rights organizations preferred
  • Work authorization in the relevant host country:
    • Specifically, have the right to work in the host organization’s country: Kenya, Malawi, South Africa, or The Gambia. [Please note that costs relating to international relocation and acquiring work authorization cannot be supported

• Strong experience in leading evaluations and capitalization exercises conforming OECD/DAC’s Quality Standards for Development and Humanitarian Evaluation.
• Strong experience in working in the Women Protection and Empowerment sector in protracted crisis including MHPSS and Health sector.
• Strong expertise in project cycle management, project monitoring, and outcome/impact measurement
• Strong conceptual and analytical thinking.
• Excellent communication and writing skills in English and Arabic.
• Prior experience, knowledge, and strong track record in implementing evaluations in the region is required.
• Prior experience working with international Nongovernmental Organizations (NGOs)
• Understanding of the culture, safeguarding concerns and standards relating to ethical and confidential data collection

• Convene key global level policy and advocacy focal points and InterAction working groups to support advocacy advancing country-level protection strategies 
• Lead the development and implementation of a global-level advocacy strategy to advance policies on protection risk reduction with key decision makers 
• Support Humanitarian team advocacy on humanitarian principles, standards and, and related reforms 
• Lead engagement with NGO Forums on policy and advocacy related to protection and IASC reform 
• Supports Secretariat function for the Centrality of Protection (CoP) Community of Practice 
• Support the InterAction Protection & GBV Working Group 
• Develop advocacy and communications products, including policy briefs, webinars, and talking points, in support of member priorities and the CoP Community of Practice 

• Minimum of 5 to 7 years developing and executing complex advocacy strategies in conflict country contexts and/or at the global level. Experience in both contexts preferred 
• Experience convening diverse actors, facilitating dialogue, and mobilizing collective advocacy around complex issues 
• Excellent communication skills, including a proven ability to capture complex technical issues in a clear and concise manner, and to tailor written communication to target audiences 
• Good knowledge of the international humanitarian architecture - including UN and IASC decision making bodies, and key donors – and how to influence policy change within those systems 

• A relevant degree or equivalent professional experience in international development, gender studies, human rights, social sciences, or a related field.
• Training or demonstrated learning in feminist approaches to MEL, programme management and Grantmaking; women's rights, gender equality, or human rights defence (formal or informal).
• Safeguarding training or demonstrated experience applying survivor-centred and trauma-informed approaches.
• Training or practical experience in programme/project cycle management, ideally with statutory or institutional donors.

• Experience managing multi-country, donor-funded programmes or consortia throughout the project cycle, including work planning, partner coordination and reporting against shared outcomes and deadlines.
• Experience managing substantial multi-partner budgets and forecasts, with a strong understanding of statutory donor compliance and reporting requirements. Experience with Norad or a similar donor would be an advantage.
• Demonstrable MEL experience, including tracking results, supporting partners to generate and use evidence, and coordinating cross-country learning and exchange.
• Direct experience working with WRO’s, feminist movements and/or WHRDs.
• Experience managing programme risk and adapting delivery in politically sensitive, insecure or rapidly changing contexts.
• Experience applying safeguarding and ethical data-management principles, including the secure handling of sensitive information and survivor-centred responses to risk.
